Hello and hope that somebody can help.. I recently purchased a 1991 190E 2.3 L . The car has 19,000 actual original miles on it, and is "Perfect" as new condition. The problem that I soon discovered is that the #10 fuse, for the Electro Magnetic Fan Clutch, Outside Temperature Guage and Tachmeter keeps blowing. I monitored the operation at idle and discovered that the fuse blows after the Fan Clutch engages and Disengages 4 times. Temperature reaches 80 Degrees, the fan clutch activates momentarily until the temperature drops to 75 Degrees. I assume that this is a faulty Electro Magnetic Fan Clutch, drawing too many amps, after continuous operation and blowing the fuse???
Additionally, after the car runs, with the A.C. on, for approximately 1/2 hour, the #3 Fuse (Auxillary Fan) will blow. The Auxillary fan seams to run properly, until the fuse blows, kicking on and off. I found that the two wire plug (Drivers Side Inner Fender) going to the fan, has been spliced. I assume that the original connector has been previously damaged?? Also, I find, in the same location (Driverside Lower Inner Fender) A resistor block that has been bypassed. The two leads that went through this resistor block have been bolted together, leaving the resistor block unused. I assume the resistor block is bad? Is this resistor block for the Auxillary Fan? And if so, could this be causing the fuse to blow, after the fan cycles for approximately 30 minutes?
ANY help would be appreciated. I have an absolutely Beautiful Mercedes and want to enjoy it! I am affraid to drive it now, because I am worried about overheating.
