Greeting to All,
I hope someone could help me!!

I have 1991 300 SL that I bought a year ago.

The problem is the seatbelt light is constantly on and every now and then when I signal to left or right turn all the lights in dashboard blimp.

Can anyone give me sound advice as to what i should be doing or to look for ?

Thanking you in advance.

I had a the same fault last winter (90 500SL) and I was thinking oh no wiring, big bills, anyway it turned out to be a loose belt driving the alternator. Hope yours is the same, dont' understand why this would happen but it was as simple as that in my case.

The blinking dash lights sounds like a symptom of a bad earth connection at one or more of your lights. Removing the lamp units and cleaning up the connections to the body might help.

I had a similar problem last year (SEAT BELT LIGHT ON) took the car, SL500, to an independent auto electrian who connected a small computer gadget to the car, pinpointed the problem and fixed it for £30 all in about 20 minutes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have recently acquired a 1992 300 SL which is now covered 65,000 miles. The first problem was that the ABS light came on and the brakes were then applied but only for a moment. It happened very frequently most particularly over rough ground and at first I thought it might be a sensor in one of the wheels. The warning bulb warning light had lit up but I had not linked the two, if there is any link.

The garage carried out a fault code test, pin to pin testing of all wheel speed sensors and control units and traced the fault to intermittent low voltage at control unit. They fitted a new "voltage control relay" as they described it.

For 24 hours everything was well and then during the course of a lengthy journey the ABS light started to come on and off on a frequent basis with the same result that the brakes were applied. It even happened on the motorway and did not appear to be so ground dependent.

I then realised that on occasions none of the controls for the indicators/wipers were working. This included the headlight flash control and I realised that these were all controlled from the same column. This fault was intermittent and the vehicle's electrics would be restored to good health immediately after the S. R. S. light shone for a short while! Then, when accelerating, the blown bulb warning light lit up and the right rear indicator light seemed to have blown again. However, later that day everything returned to normal. Yet later again the blown bulb warning light lit up although the windscreen wipers, headlight flash control and the left indicator appears to be working correctly. The horn has not worked since I bought it.

I am wondering whether this might be linked either to the ignition key or to some problem between the steering wheel and the column itself which might explain why the electrics seem to work after the S. R. S. light has shone.

I have now realised that, if the electrics are not working correctly when I start the car, if I use the headlight flasher once or twice the SRS light illuminates and the system works again. Is this the column control or something else? It also seems to be linked to the cigarette-lighter socket on occasions!

The ABS lights and the brakes still activitate intermittently but less frequently that they used to!

Er.. each corner of the car? Perhaps I wasn't clear. Remove the rear light clusters and check for any corrosion where they bolt to the body (the earth point). Do the same for the front indicators.
