A neighbour of mine asked me to look at the knock on a 300ce that he'd just bought-it was more annoying than bad.

Nothing untoward until I got to the O/S front mount for the subframe. The mounting point had completely rotted out & was floating.

This is a new one on me,& as I say,it didn't sound that bad.

Unlikely,as it was the body, not the s/frame that is rotten.

OK I am in tune now with it, well it does not help you unless you can break the car

It may get broken-he can't sell it as is now that he knows the issue (has no comeback either as he bought it on E-bay).
Looking at about £250 for the welding, after I've removed the rear subframe.

And a few hours to remove the exhaust and prop shaft, I think the time scale is 4 hours for this, so he may as well have it done

....plus recovery,snapped bolts on downpipe,so on,so forth.
Along with a few other issues on the car (it has 195000 on the clock),the question is when do you stop chucking money at it.
It owes £800 at the moment, has rusty rear arches & a fairly poor respray, and was only intended as a cheap intro into Mercs.

It has happened previously to a forum member known as Howard (actually he may be on the other forum) but they removed the subframe and welded plates into the area, and it all worked out ok. In fact another forum member bought the car from him about a year later, and it's all been OK.

You may want to look at parts number 201 611 0011 listed at approx 5 pounds each which may be the spigots that drop down which the subframe bushes bolt onto.

Yes they are what the subframe bolts bolt onto,I just lowered the subframe, no point trying to make these parts at that price.
