1991 300se air pump pulley

I am new to MB repair. I have the CD repair manual but it is no help with the air pump. I need to know how to tell if I need to replace the pulley or the whole unit. The pulley is locked up and will not turn. How does the pulley remove from the pump. There is about 170,000 miles on my 1991 300SE. It seems fairly easy, I just need a few tips.
