1991 500sl engine problem

You say the engine is locked is that what you mean, or is it not turning over which could be a raft of different issues

got the rac out he tried to turn the engine over after takin the starter out, it did not turn

Which SL R107 R129, timing chain snapped and jammed engine!!!!!! take the plugs out and try to rotate it with a socket on the bottom pully.

if it rotates would it be the chain

Try turning anti clockwise if it is the chain, then it will turn anticlockwise for a little way

how much damage is it likely to do?
something must have gone wrong when i turned the car off before that it was running fine and smooth

I do not think that the diagnosis is correct, still think it is battery or starter at fault, these engines do not stop this way

someone told me its a guide rail near the timing chain that might have fell into the gear and locked it up
need more advice pleaz

Have you tried to turn it backwards with a spanner on the crankshaft pulley

locked both way, after removing the starter
