I wonder if anyone can shed any light (?) on the determination of my R129 to flatten its (new) battery if it's left unused for 5 or more days. I thought that I had rectified this initially by selecting the boor light switch to off - problem seemed to be resolved - but the car has decided to introduce another battery draining snag now, just so I don't get bored!

The latest instance of this incapacitated the central locking system which prevented access to the battery as the boot wouldn't unlock - frustrating. Overcame it by connecting a portapak to the live feed on the alternator and an earth which powered up enough for the CL to work.

Charging the battery up again overnight gets the beast back in the mood to cooperate - but then if it gets a few days off................

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

A note of thanks to those of you who were so helpful with my previous post re roof release snag. It turned out to be the ECU - £770 + VAT!! :-(

You need to test the current drain when the car is locked and the battery is fully charged. Then go from there.

Maybe its the PSE pump (CL vacuum pump) as the culprit as you have had central locking problems.

When joining up to measure current you need 2 leads on one terminal of the meter. One clamp and one probe.

clamp the single lead onto the battery clamp, and undo the clamp, Place the probe on the double leads into the center of the battery post and slide the clamp up the probe, then clamp the other lead of the double set onto the battery post

The meter must be set to DC amps before you start
