I have recently come back from working overseas (Hong Kong) and brought my lovely 1991 S300-24 with me.
I wanted to change the instrument panel/cluster from Km to miles, as the car is not legal unless it displays MPH.
I took the car to my local Merc Dealer and they phoned Merc UK with all the relevant numbers to order the correct part. I had previuosly been advised it would cost 648GBP plus VAT.
We were advised from MercUK that the instruments could not be changed, as the car had been designed for KM and could not be changed to miles. They suggested that I put stickers on the speedo to show MPH.

I find this hard to believe and that I can't get a new instrument cluster put in to show miles. Feeling rather helpless.

Does anyone have a similar experience? Does anyone have a solution ... other than stickers!!

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Whilst the individual components can be changed, the speedo is driven by the main engine ECU, the Eprom in that will have been programed for KM., so changing ithe head unit and ECU is expensive.
Your car is basically a 124 and shares the same components, maybe a breaker or the like for the bits, just double check part numbers.

Sorry I should have added that UK cars display both KM and miles, I could take a photo of mine, and the differences in callibration could be compared. if a uk dial face is not too far out, No one other than you would know, and you could adjust.
