The car is a 1992 230E (124) with ventilated discs. About 3 years ago I replaced the front pads in about one and a half hours in a very straightforward and logical process. All was fine. Now they need doing again, and I want to replace the front discs which are probably original. The Haynes manual suggests 2 calliper bolts, and 2 disc screws. Is it really that easy? Has anyone experience of changing front discs. Does anything stick, or cause concern. I can't believe it is that easy, although most things on this model are very straightforward. Europarts suggests discs and pads for £80.
Advice welcome.

i would certainly go for the best quality in brake disc and brake pads as safety is a prime concern here-you will find that eurocarparts usually offer two qualities in the brake disc and pads-so go for top quality if you can.

on the labour side ,i usually ask my mechanic to do this.

cheap discs and pads aren't worth it. tried with several Mercs, the pedal and response just isn't the same. With things like brakes don't mess around.
And europarts, supplied me a 2 calipers for my 500sl, one failed after 100miles! Lucky i was the only person on the road.

changing discs are dead easy as there is only a little screw holding the brake disc on. if you have managed to change your pads you shouldn't have any difficulties.

The only tips are make sure the hub face is clean to prevent the new discs warping and make sure you clean off the protective coating on the discs before fitting them on.

as for brake discs I would recommend genuine merc ones as they are only slightly more expensive and don't warp. I think mercedes have them finished off to a specific spec to give a really smooth braking surface.

HI.

I have just replaced my discs & pads on my 230, I used eurocarparts and went for the OEM discs & Pads, probably saved £50 on mercedes parts, and the quality is very good, although the M/B discs are finished slighly smoother, but after running them in the OEMs are fine..

P.S. It was very a easy job.

good luck
