1992 600sel V-12

Hello everyone,

I have recently come upon what appears to be an excellent opportunity. The transmission in my 560SEL is blown up and requires a complete rebuild. I was debating whether or not to do so, when I then discovered a 1992 600SEL for sale in my town, for $9500.00 Canadian. Thats a steal at that price, and the car only has 85000.00 km on the clock. The owner has only had it for a year and advises me that the only work he has had to have done to it is a tie rod end replacement. Seems good enough. No rust on it in any of the pictures. The owner is going to take some more and send them to me. The car he says came from japan as an import.

So! big question, as im considering this hulk of a v-12. Obviously not getting this car for fuel economy, are there any major defects with the 600's?. I remember reading that their electronics can be buggy, however im unable to find any elaboration on that.

Does anybody have any further information about potential problems with the 600SEL's?

hi gunslinger. im not too familiar with the 600 im afraid but i do have an s500 myself so know the w140 pretty well.
you need to check all the electrics work open all the windows check they stop on there way up if you put you hand in them. should have folding mirrors check they all work. make sure all the doors and bootlid close on the self close vacuum. pumps are expensive. also the central locking.have a good look underneath and check all the springs as they are known to snap.also the cats are prone o failure i believe on the 600 just give it a real good going over nad turn on and off every single switch and button make sure the heated seats work properly too hope this helps .
