1992 E300 - service costs

Hi All,

My first post - very pleased to be joining you all as an MB owner.

I take receipt of a 1992 black E300 auto next week. I've just come off the phone from Deutch Marque in Edinburgh asking for costs of servicing. Very helpful but wonder about the costs.

The guy explained that a car of my age would be on 9000 service cycle (correct) with major services at intervals of 36K and 54K (didn't know that). Price quoted for a 36K service (appropriate to my car @ 140k) = £220 inc VAT. What do you guys reckon? Anyone know of anyone better and/or cheaper in Central Scotland area?

Also, is this equivalent to what I know as an A service or does that only apply to modern MB's?

Ahh, the joy of newbies asking dumb questions!! I look forward to posting many more in future weeks. :lol:

The modern ones with the ASSYST system have A and B's on a variable schedule. Older ones were fixed every 9k. The A is basically an oil change so no that would be very heavy, but a 36k is probably more akin to a B as all sorts of other things get checked every 3 years or so. If this is the case then £220 inc is very reasonable.

Cheers for the reply there, JB. My knowledge of ASSYST was pretty vague but you've since prompted me to inform myself! I think you're right to say that a 36K is equivalent to a B level service so I guess I'll be going for it.
