1992 m103 12v SOHC diagnostics codes + reader.

Subject: 1992 300CE coupe M103 12V SOHC W124 124.050. 170K miles.

a: does this old tank give me diagnostic codes from that round plug thing over the wheel arch near the ABS unit ?
b: if so, whats the position with creating a reader ?
c: if a is positive and b is easy (I can do plumbing and understand how to use a hammer, me), where do I get the codes ?

There are some cheap 38 pin code readers arounf these days, thats what you need, it is possible to use a led blink code readout but you need to know what they mean

Someone adapted a cheap handheld one for VW/Audi.
I think that I read it in an old MB Owners Club mag a couple of years ago.
Out of interest,what is the problem that you have?

Usual cold start problems; takes too long when not been used but like a light switch when run, even only for 30 seconds or so.

OVP relay fuses fine, all HT replaced, fuel pumps whirr up, cleaned and repaired several vacuum hoses dotted around to make sure they're all air tight.

Also, just out of interest's sake, I'd like to see what the car thinks its own internal state of affairs is.

Could be the fuel pressure leaking back or low,failed or dirty cold start injector,or even cap & arm.
Unfortunately,these old uns don't have much of a self diagnostic system,so you won't learn too much from it.
