1994 C Class sticking ignition barrel - known problem?

My 1994 C250 Diesel's ignition barrel is starting to stick in the off position. I can get it working if I insert the key in one direction only, but otherwise its as if its the wrong key I've inserted. I'm sure I've read the C class has a known problem with the ignition barrel, which requires a new one. Is this the case?

Is it an easy enough job to tackle. I'm being quoted ~£47 for a barrel that will take my current keys (on proof of ownership to the garage), or ~£25 for a 'workshop' barrel that comes with the 1 key (meant for cars that come in with the barrel busted or all keys missing).

Anyone with experience of this?

Does this happen with the spare keys also? If so, sort it quickly.If your key sticks in the off position permanently, you will face a vastly increast cost in removing the barrel to fit the replacement.

Get your log book and your photo ID and get yourself down to your local Stealership or MB specialist and order a replacement barell to match your current key as soon as possible.

You shouldn't need your log book for the ignition barrel. Only for the key replacement. As you can't run off with the car with only the barrel.

You should replace ASAP. If not as Spike has said you will be looking at a lgreatly increased cost. There are a couple of special tools required depending on the age of the vehicle.
