I'M HAVING NO END OF TROUBLE WITH MY 1994 E220 W124 M111 ENGINE. MY LOCAL NON MERC SPECIALIST GARAGE IS TAKING THE HEAD OFF FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 5 WEEKS, WITH SUSPECTED BENT VALVES FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE ADJUSTABLE SPROCKET THAT PROVIDES ADVANCE/RETARD ON THE INLET CAM WAS PUT BACK ON THE CAR WITH THE MECHANISM NOT MOVING FREELY AND I SUSPECT THAT PISTON/VALVE CONTACT MAY HAVE BEEN MADE. THE ADJUSATBLE SPROCKET ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED AT A COST OF £300 BUT THE ENGINE IS NOISY ON TICKOVER AND NUMBER 4 POT IS DOWN BY ABOUT 2 BAR. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF PISTON TO VALVE CONTACT CAN BE MADE IF THE INLET CAM ADJUSTER IS JAMMED IN PLACE. THE CAR INITIALLY WENT IN FOR A SUPECTED HEAD GASKET FAILURE AS CYLS 3 & 4 WERE DOWN ON COMPRESSION AND SLIGHT OIL IN WATER. IF ANY ONE CAN SHED ANY LIGHT ON THE JAMMED ADJUSTER CAUSING VALVE DAMAGE I WOULD BE GRATEFUL.
