Sounds like the motor is still turning (in boot, NS) but could be cables slipping around motor cogs??

Could be something jamming the sun roof from opening. The motor is designed to cutout if the roof is binding anywhere thus preventing the motor from burning it self out.

Well Ive fixed it, Fuse A top left corner in the fuse box, dirty as hell replaced it with a new fuse but polished the ends first so it was nice and shiney, dad couldn't believe it when the roof worked.!!!

He said it took MB kettering 1 hour to find out what was wrong and quote £300 for a new sunroof motor.

just goes to show , ive always tryed to diagnose my cars problems , i dont trust mechanics and never will tbh , im lucky that my skills are pretty good mechanically. dont be scared to have a go at something yourself before getting charged a fortune . most mechanical stuff is pretty straight forward tbh.

Once again it shows that Basics are still 90% of the problem

I think its a bit Pi££ poor for MB to assume the motor is at fault and then expect a customer to spend £300++++ for something that isnt at fault.
And what would they do once the motor was replaced and found it to still not work, replace more parts until they found the fuse to be the fault and then make out the motor was the problem.

I think MB will suffer in the future, theres seems to more specialists coming to the market place, Ive only just started in the diagnostics side of MB and Im still learning and I think I will still be learning MB for many years to come, but the more indies that come online the more its going to hurt MB.
The dealer my dad uses admitted they didnt have anyone in the workshop that had any experience on the W124. Brilliant.

Rant over.
