Hi all my 1995 C180 windscreen wiper has suddenly altered its stop position, it wipes a full 180 degree arc on continuous settings but when i switch off or put on intermittent setting it stops about 5-6 inches above normal????
Anyone have any ideas
Thanks.

My guess would be the wiper motor! As a believe that what control the parking position. Fairly easy job if want to have a go your self!

All the best

Do you mean a complete change of unit or is the park position ajustable?

If the parking is in the wrong place, it means the the mechanism has slipped or the moter has jumped a tooth, the mechanism will have to be removed and refiitted in the right place.

On a wiper where the arm fits directly onto the motor, the arm needs taking off and re fitting on the spline.
Is the arm going to far in the opposite direction to park.

Hi - went to a garage yesterday (not Mercedes specialist) he said a new wiper motor is needed, i have Read C220GJS's link on moving the stop position, (thanks) and i believe the stop position can be adjusted as the motor is working fine on all settings, just not parking in the correct position on intermittent setting and when switching off. Would anyone agree on this or have had success in doing this job as it seems a common problem on single wiper Mercs.

The parking is done with a separate set of contacts inside the motor, this part is non adjustable,as such. OK one can take off the back plate and move the gear driving the worm wheel, but with no refference points to work to,you could have 50 atempts. When the mechanism has become stiff, it can cause the motor to jump a tooth or more. Once this has happened it can do it easily again. I think that as it only takes a little time that if you remove the mechanism and refit in the correct place and give it a go. If it works OK but does the same thing again then the motor will need to be replaced. Don't forget to lubricate the mechanism while you are at it.

Robbo,
The only way to find out is to take off the complete assembly and see why it has moved it's park position,it could be something as simple as the large nut on the back of the drive head coming loose.
It is a simple job to resynchronise the setup when you have it off as there are index marks on the back of the drive head, with the motor in the park position using the stalk switch the motor crank lever and the linkage should be parallel to each other, then tighten everything up and refit checking the index position is correct before completeing assembly. When checking the mechanism keep your fingers out of the way as it is very powerful.

Thanks Geo i was on he point of giving up and buying a recon or used motor, you have given me the encouragement to have a go in the morning, as i had a problem before where the nut had came off the back of the motor before and stopped the wiper from working, will let you know the outcome tomorrow.
Thanks, Robert.

Hi all i have fixed the wiper, it is now parking in the right position thus saving myself £120 in the process, i noticed the large nut on the back of the mechanism came undone with ease, so i fixed it back to the car let it park itself, held that position and removed it, undone large nut pulled wiper down to park position and re tightened large nut on the back, put back on car a hey presto everything as it should be, special thanks to Television and C220GJS for a correct diagnosis of fault.

Thanks.
