Hi there

I have a 1995 C200 which has a wiper problem. Basically, the wiper arm initially broke out of it's natural arc and would get stuck, and would only work on the middle speed setting. I approached a couple of Mercedes dealers for a solution and they quoted £650-750 to replace gears/motor. I decided to use a temporary measure of a shorter blade. Now, after a year or so, the wiper is not working at all. I can hear the motor working on all settings but the wiper arm does not move. I removed the wiper arm and the have looked at the shaft mechanism. This seems well lubricated, in good condition and moves freely, but it seems there is no longer a connection to the motor.

Any advice on what I should do next? Garages I have approached do not want to get involved. If anyone knows of a good garage anywhere between Taunton and Exeter who would know what they are doing with this please contact me.

Best regards

Ian

Thanks for the reply. I have seen this link previously and have looked at the shaft mechanism. As I mentioned previously, it moves freely and it is well lubricated and in good condition. The problem is that it no longer appears to be attached to the motor/gears (which do not seem visible from the wiper/windscreen side)

Best regards

Problem solved

I am writing to inform you all that the MB dealership diagnosis that a mono-wiper that does not work anymore requires complete replacement of the gear mechanism may not be true (as if we didn't know)!

'panason1c' gave me much appreciated help and fixed my problem which was due to a loose nut on the motor mechanism.

All the best

It's dissappointing to think that MB dealership customer care is no better than the Deawoo dealership. Just as a comparison my Sister has a nearly new Deawoo Ghia 1.6 something. She had a wiper problem. The mechanics found a faulty connection. They replaced it the same day for £52.49 inc VAT and gave her car a valet FREE. They could have easily taken her to the cleaners but they didn't.

MB dealerships should have a workforce that should be capable of diagnosing a loose nut and deal with it without taking us proud MB owners to the cleaners.

C'mon MB get you act together and stop printing money.
