1996 250 d elegance won't start

1996 250d elegance won't start recently had a new fuel and air filter, was advised it could be crank sensor, just replaced that (50 quid down the drain )
Know nothing about derv engines could any one give me any pointers on what to check (and how) can't afford a second mortgauge to send it in to MB thanx in advance fingers crossed

get all the O-rings replaced on the clear plastic pipes (or replace the pipes themselves).

and also take a look at the top of the IP to see if there is any diesel leaking from the Delivery Valve Seals.
