1996 C220 ABS Control Unit Location

Quick restatement of an unsolved problem: I simulatenously lost speedometer and got constant instrument indicators for ABS, brake pads, and parking brake.

Made some progress with this problem. I bought the C220 full schematics on e-bay and I discovered that the ABS, Brake Pad, and Parking Brake (for fluid failure) are all controlled from the ABS module. Moreover, the speedometer signal is also routed through the ABS module before going to the instrument panel. Quite a coincidence!!!

That is, I strongly suspect the ABS control unit. The problem is that the schematics tell me that the ABS control unit is located next to the cruise control and ECU modules in the engine compartment. I did not find it!

Anyone knows where the ABS module is located on a 1996 C220?

have you looked in the obvious places for relays ?
ie: the fusebox in the engine compartment and the boot ?

Try the passenger side footwell under a steel plate i think it is there.

You do need to know if your car has ESP,this was added 06 96

You are not looking for a small typical relay here, it is a big unit like the main ECU with a large multipin plug on top.

On my car, a late W124, it is behind the battery with the other electrical boxes/relays. It is covered by plastic which has to be removed before you can see it and gain access.
