Hello everyone

I am new to this website as I am a recent owner of a 1996 Benz E220 Coupe (Automatic, 100000 miles) Really like the car put having a problem, hopefully not to serious, any help would be much appreciated

Car will idle rough sometimes and then cause the car to cut out. It usually revs between 5 - 10 but before its stalls it revs up to between 20 - 30 and then cuts out.

Once stalled it will not start again for maybe 40 - 60 seconds.

When you turn the ignition the lights on the dash will come on but the engine does not make a sound. It will then start after 40-60 seconds.

The rough idle seem to happen at anytime, not cause the car is cold or standing for a while. Appears random.

Thanks

Your engine loom is breaking down and shorting, the loom from the MAF is most likely the problem as it sits above the manifold.

I have a loom for your car in stock if you need it, or you can call me tomorrow to discuss.

Thanks jib for the help as i have no knowledge on this. Should be getting the car checked in the next few days, so if I need the engine loom I will get back in touch.

I have also be told it may be the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft position sensor, Would you know if these are relatively minor and inexpensive problems to fix. (Hopefully!!!)

Cheers

John
