Hi,

my Girlfriends father left her his pride and joy, a N reg E230

which has now only done 50k and is looked after by a friend of the family (Ex Merc engineer)

we recenntly found that sometimes after the mirrors have been folded in overnight, they dont go back out when the button

if we press the button several times, sometimes they go back out, or if we drive off, and then press the button several times, they fold back out?

Any ideas if it's a switch or something needs oiling or something?

our friend is away on holiday, and our local dealer, has overcharged her in the past, so we don't really want to use them.
(they charged her nearly two grand to change the steering rack at 45k ?)

Thanks

Hi,
Welcome to the forum,
When you operate the switch do you hear the folding motors in the mirrors operating or clicking? if so it won,t be the switch, in which case you will need to look at lubricating the folding mechanism's. If you hear no clicking from the motors as SAM has suggested replace the mirror switch.
The folding mirrors is a very simple system on this car, as the only electrical parts of the system is the mirrors themselves (folding mirror motors) and the switch, no control ECU, so this will be a simple fault.

The mirrors also need lubricating at the fulcrum point where they swivel, they can get too tight for the little motor.
