1996 E320 Auto 'sticks' in 1st when cold

Hi, I have an 96 E320 AG auto which holds first gear for longer than usual when cold. Does anyone have and ideas or suggestions. Cheers

Completely normal, the gearbox hangs on to the gears longer so that the engine revs are a higher causing the catalytic converter to reach operating temperature quicker.

Thanks chaps, it holds to about 3500 rpm before changing. Is that ok. Cheers

3500 seems a little on the high side and the lock up is more obvious when going down hill.

How long does it stay at 3500
