Hi All,

Not posted here before IIRC but have been a member since 2011 (you could say I'm a bit slow) when I bought the above referenced car.

Anyway, I just took the car out of long term storage, got it MOT'd (just 2 minor advisories) and a noisy fan (clicking noise like leaves in the fan).

Looking around I spotted that this is common enough problem with a variety of fixes, so I chose the one I thought was the least complicated and easiest to implement, the bent coat hanger mod !. I was expecting to find copious examples of similar fixes here but a search revealed - nothing, so here goes.

Having worked on Saabs, I can honestly say that the SL is a dream to work on by comparison, everything comes off so easily, and the bonnet maintenance position is first class, I wish all cars were made this way.

Here is the car in various stages of disassembly :

From here it was relatively easy to get the whole blower assembly out for the next part :

and here is the fix installed, just a couple of small holes drilled in the plastic motor support and fed the coat hanger 'clip' up from the bottom, probably nearly impossible without taking the assembly out as seen here ...

It's a shame that the coat hanger was white (and I could have stripped it back to bare metal) but I don't suppose it matters really, the main thing is that it works like a dream.

Hope this helps anyone else out there with the same issues - enjoy.

Yes it's neat isn't it, not my invention as I am sure I read about it on some other forum but neat and simple to implement (although I had to make it twice because my 'prototype' was too short). I bought this car in 2009 with 83,000 miles on the clock, it has been in storage since then, only coming out twice in that time for a couple of weeks, mileage is now just over 86,000.
