Hi, I am new to this computer thing!! My 1997 412 sprinter has lost a lot of power lately, if it can see a hill in the distance or has a slight headwind etc it slows up a lot, it is in great condition, first time starter, used almost no oil, no smoke, idles well, revs out at 4000 rpm, it has a heavy luton body and taillift so I don't expect too much but 45 mph up hill on the M11 is not what it used to be like, no warning lights on dash, just passed class 7 mot, averaged 22mpg on a recent trip to southern Germany but no power, any ideas???
seems to have a noticable but slight flat spot at 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm but no great power even at 3500 rpm, not missfiring, no noises, had new bearings , head gsk and decoke etc two years ago,

Pat

Has it a CDi engine?

It may do at that age. (look at the engine cover) If it does not they are quite sluggish and do struggle to hit 70mph. Has it got a turbo? Is the turbo performing properly?

Hi, it is the pre cdi 5 cylinder 2.9 turbo engine, 120 hp, feels more like 80 hp, I did not think a turbo could loose performance unless it had munched itself and then the exhaust would fill with oil?? but it does feel like a non turbo!!!!!

A boost hose could be off.

turbo boost control valve, it sits on top of the black turbo intercooler pipe at the front of the engine, it is around the size of a oxo cube?? the van will run ok, but be as flat as a fart to put it blunt, it will rev up but wont pull, easyiest way is to pop down to a local deisel centre and ask them to put it on there computer, it should show you the faults anyway, the turbo boost switch cost around £50/£60 from mercs, it will have a little rubber hose going into the under neath of it, daz
