Had to leave the wifes C240 in the Asda Car Park
Ignition Key goes In, all warning lights on as usual , then spins to start, but not a cough or a splutter it just spins over .
Funny thing is, that it feels like the starter is continuing after the key moves back to just the ignition setting ? ie it keeps spinning after springback on the key.
I suspect that I will have to get it recovered to my local indie on monday unless it can be Fault code read and its something like the Fuel Relay
I'm with GEM recovery I dont know if i'm likely to get a man with a code reader?

Anyone recognise the symptoms on this motor ??

Thanks in advance

I concur with the others about the crankshaft position sensor. The starter running after you release is normal. You may never have noticed, but you only need to flick the key to the crank position and release. the starter will then run until the engine starts, or it "times out", as in this case...

it is on the n/s, if you are in the uk that is passenger side. it is right at the very back of the engine block, visible between the engine and bulkhead from above. it is changed from above also, and you will need an E8 torx socket for the bolt. usually they are easy to remove, but beware, they can be quite badly seized too...
