Hi All,

I was wondering if you could possibly help...

I have just brought a 1997 CLK 200, it came with 2 x laser fob 3 button keys.

I have used both of the keys and they both worked. A few days ago, the main key I was using stopped working...

I can open the door/lock the door with the key, but it does not click in the ignition, nor does it turn to step two in the ignition. I have used a digital camera and pointed my key on it and the lights seem to be working fine.

My second key is quite badly damaged and I really want this key working before I am left without any keys. Please can anyone help as to why this problem would have occured over night with my key

Thanks

Hi,
You say you have 2 keys, and 1 has packed up. If they have both packed up it will be more than likely the EIS switch (very expensive to replace). The electronic key you have are not unknown to fail, apparently there is a small surface mounted component on the key's PCB which goes open circuit. Television i believe (fellow forum member) knows more regarding this, but do have a search in the forums "how to" section as i believe there are threads which may include this, also i think a thread on how to remove your "damaged" keys components and put them into another key case.
Hope this has helped.
