I have now done 1500 miles in the car and it stills turns off at odd moments, Merc say there is nothing wrong with the car. This is great but it wont stop a lorry running up your arse on a moterway.
Other garages talk about replacing the pump/computer and any other part thats over £1000 but can't tell me it will fix it. I have pulled every fuse/connector, flushed the tank, changed air/fuel/oil filters/keyfob battries but no joy. Every 50-200 miles it stops, just like its run out of fuel. Someone told me it could be the cat1 alarm but i can't find it. As it can't be fixed and i worry when i drive it and selling it whould only get me into trouble with the new owner i intend to sell it for spares does anyone know any good merc breakers.

When the engine cuts out, does it cough and splutter before hand, ot just stop dead like its been switched off?

If its the latter, then it may well be the immobiliser on the Cat 1 alarm. Take it to any alarm specialist and they will check it out for you

I have been getting the same problem with my 250 D.`94. Some one told me today that it has a fuel filter underneath by the fuel tank. i have to wait until Monday to get the car on a ramp. It cut out yesterday in the fast lane at rush hour on the A12; Luckily there was a cop car right on my tail . I put on the hazards and made it to the grass verge. Mine`s auto ,so what I normally do is knock her into nuetral then touch the throttle then back into drive, and she`s away. But yesterday she got jinxed by the cop. I`ll let you know how I get on on Monday.
