Posting this for a friend of mine, 1997 CL420 He had an immobiliser fitted at a Merc garage, they told him they didn't have the software to install it, so the car is on my premises and won't start, I have had two diag guys look at it, everything checks out apart from the immobiliser won't let the injectors fire, does anybody have the software for a 1997 CL420? the owner is prepared to have the car transported to somebody who can sort it.
Cheers Dave

Hello and welcome

Confused as to what you’re wanting. Are you saying that Mercedes fitted a replacement immobiliser and now the car won’t start???

Or that some other garage fitted a new immobiliser and that works so well the car won’t start???

Either scenario it should go back to whoever fitted the immobiliser for rectification.

If you’re wanting information on how to disable or bypass the immobiliser you won’t get it here for obvious reasons…

(I’d also remove your phone number from your post, unless you want spam calls… (Our threads are fully searchable so info like phone numbers and email addresses shouldn’t be put on open forum)

Hi, Mercedes Benz Carlisle, diagnosed a faulty immobiliser, so they physically fitted a new immobiliser, then they told my friend they didn't have software old enough to install it and code the keys. They charged him £1000 for this, I have emailed MB Germany, who gave me an email address for MB Milton Keynes, which have backed up this 10-year-old rule for support, which blows my mind, I haven't and don't want to know how to bypass the immobiliser! all we want is somebody to tell the car it has had a new immobiliser, so the car will run, surely there is one person in England that can do this? My mate has no clue about cars, so he has asked me for help. Reg No A7 LEO Vin No WDB1400632A362585

Riduculous that MB can offer a part and fit it, yet that they cant support it to work.
They should have told you that upfront as ot woukd have been part of the WIS information.
It doesnt help you at all but I would be going back and make sure they rectify, which I am sure they have the software for or can get if pushed.
Thats one for trading standards.

Hi
Because of the age of this car it almost certainly has the 38 pin diagnostic socket which means you need the old HHT diagnostic software and not the later DAS or Xentry software, hence why the dealer cant do anything to it.
I think you might have some luck if you can find someone with a C3 Multiplexer and STAR Laptop as it "should" be able to get into the control units to re-programme.
As others on here I cannot believe MB can fit security based items that they would know before fitting requires programming and not tell you they cant actually do it and charge a 4 figure sum for the privilege.

Like others have said I find it hard to believe that an MB dealer can supply a part that they are unable to get to work and then charge you for it, rendering the car unusable. At the very minimum I'd be demanding my money back. Very poor show on the part of MB and I don't believe that they are unable to sort out the problem. Simply a case of they can't be arsed to get a specialist in?

I agree I have found an independent guy, he has the software, hopefully, he can get it running, he asked me If the remote open and closed the car, which It did, he told me MB Carlisle had done something wrong and they didn't know how to fix it, he knows what they did, and he knows how to sort it, things are looking up

And once it’s sorted maybe you should send the bill to the Merc dealer !
