1998 C280 Elegance

Engine starts no problem first occasion of the day.Then if parked for a short while it takes several attempts.The engine does not turn over,all normal dash lights come on.The battery,starter motor and connections are fine and new batteries in remote key fob.If parked for say 1 hour it starts no problem.Any ideas?

Hello and welcome big reason is the K38 starter lock out relay behind the radio, we had a thread last week on the diesel version.

The spade connections get poor contact

Thanks for your advice.Have just been quoted £700 for new "ignition control" and "vacuum sensor" whatever that is.Having now read other threads will do more basic checks but your diagnosis looks promising.Will have to get local garage to change relay unless you tell me it is easy.How does the radio come out?
