On my CLk 230K (WDB 208 347), the part you have indicated is part no. A111 0980009 . And When trying to solve the power problem with my CLK, I got a quote for this part from Dronsfied for £125+VAT and from meredes itself for £259.74+VAT.

I remember you mentioned that you changed your Mass Air FLow as well. Was just wondering! was there oil in it ?!?

Clk supercharger c/o flap

Mafuta,

That IS the part I identified, on the MB parts diagram (item 86) it is associated with the air cleaner and called a recirc air flap for some reason but it IS the part in your photo.

I strongly suggest you give Andy Gayle a ring or e-mail him. He is familiar with this problem and was very helpful to me. His website is www.Mercedesservicing.com

I did not notice oil on the mass air flow but I did fit a new one, seems a few things went wrong at the same time.

I have emailed Andy Gayle as was suggested by Jim.
Lets see what I get back, I will let you know.

Looks like the cost is going to go up and up.
I got this back from Andy.

Hi

To answer your question you don't have to reset the air flap. If the fault is no longer there the fault in the ecu turns to a "stored fault" rather than "current fault"

I can't suggest a remedy at this moment.

Regards

Andy

1998 CLK 230k compressor clutch

The fault has been fixed. New compressor clutch (together with a rebuilt compressor) new mass air meter. ECU repaired, faulty transistor possibly damaged by faulty compressor clutch.

Its now back to seeing BMWs in my rear view mirror.

Thanks to all who responded, to my pleas.

Glad you got the problem sorted. Interestingly you finished up with an ECU fault which was the same result as me after going down the air valve and clutch not engaging path. My clutch was NOT faulty in the end which may mean yours did not cause the fault, sounds like a ECU type fault on Kompressor CLKs (W208 model). Andy Gayle told me he had had one similar before mine.
You saved so much money by having the ECU repaired instead of a new one. I wish I had done the same!!!!

Did you try the instructions I sent you for testing the clutch with the wire links.

I did have more than one fault occur, of that I am sure. The original clutch was open circuit and would not engage. When I fitted the new clutch it engaged as soon as the ignition was switched on. This was as we know not right, someone mentioned here that the motor must be running and the clutch will engage once the engine is revved up, it was on all the time even at idle. The ECU was repaired at the independent who done the star test for the second time.

Yes I did save money having the ECU repaired. The cost was as follows. Mass air filter from eBay fitted by me £100. Star test and investigation into fault £75. Rebuilt compressor with clutch from USA fitted by me £420. Star test and ECU repair £125.
Once again thanks for all the help.
