I've done a search and can't seem to find anything other than stuff i already sort of know. For a couple of days now, it takes ages for the engine to start - lots of long cranking, some spluttering then eventually it starts. Now i've read about leak o rings on the clear fuel line assembly but i had the pipes and seals replaced about 4k miles ago. I did notice, however, that this neew starting trouble seems to have coincided with driving through a rather large, but not too deep, puddle of rain the other day. Any thoughts? thanks. mojo. ps. still lousy mpg (15-18 uk mog)... but going in for new injector tips this weds. will post results within a week or two after driving.

First thing I'd do would be to remove the air filter and make sure its dry.

Have the compression checked while the injectors are out, it could be water damage to the pistons or valves etc.

thanks for the comments - will check a/f asap; will ask mech to test compression. today, however, started first time - back to normal. not sure if it's relevant, but if i recall correctly, the long cranks only happened while parked, front facing up, on a hill.

That would be air leaking into the fuel system then.

update -

went in for retipping of injectors today. mech tested them and said they were fine and suggested i waste no more money. so i didn't. a/f dry as a bone. car still seems to be starting okay - might have been the water/hill thing - drawing air when front pointing upwards?

Fuel draining back into the tank as air enters the system.
