Hi All-- Have just purchased a C240 Elegance with 93K on the clock, full MOT and complete Mercedes service history (one owner from new) for a reasonable £2995. This being my first Merc I'm a little concerned about the sealed for life autobox. Should I leave well alone or should I get the ATF changed asap? What would members advise?

Hi & Welcome,

If it hasn't been done, and you can find this out from the dealer with your reg/vin No. Then I would get it done. As yours benefits from having a torque converter drain plug then you can change the whole 7.5ltrs. Parrot of Doom has an excellent "how to" in the DIY section.

As the post above, its worth doing or having it done, most report back saying how much smoother the changes are

the general opinion is that the "life" in sealed for "life" is around 100k - so it would be the first thing on my list - as a general rule every 60k is about right.

Many thaks for the advice--I was thinking along the same lines. However, will a MB main dealer be willing to do this or should I go elsewhere. What would you recommend?

WDM in Birmingham quoted me £81 plus VAT to change the ATF fluid and Rear Diff oil - they recommend doing both of these on my E320 CDI which I have just bought at 115k miles
