Good morning all
Can anyone give me some tech advice about alternator output and leisure battery Ah ratings.
I plan to have 2 solar panels with MPPT capability running into a solar control unit. I'm fitting an electric hook up kit and I need a split charger system. I'd like 2 x 12v leisure batteries [AGM type] and a control unit so I can have mains 240v sockets x 3 fed via a trip switch unit. I'd like to be able to charge the leisure battery bank 3 ways - alternator/ solar/ mains hook up. I will have electric oven / fridge / cd/radio / LED lights - perhaps 10 / water pump / water heater/ and poss warm air duct heating / phone and laptop to run and we will be on the road for 1 year
Is this all standard stuff? What solar panel and leisure battery ratings do I need? Is there one control box that will run alongside the solar control unit that could do what I want - Victron Units look substantial but at a cost..
Thanks for any help here before I take a financial plunge that may not be correct
Cheers

Try taking a look at the units from Sterling Marine.
Not cheap but very good.
There is a cheap way of doing it using voltage sensitive relays. Connect the feed from each source to the input of the VSR and the output to the batteries.
Once the VSR input reaches 13.3v the relay will operate switching that source to charge the battery.
Do not use a VSR on the feed to your starter battery - that should always be direct connected to the alternator.
You should also connect your mains charger direct to starter battery. That way the starter battery will take priority for charging and then charge secondary battery only once that has reached charge.
I'll see if I can work out a circuit diagram later.
