hi i have a 1998 vito 108d, been fine for years and today on the way to do a local boot sale i noticed the temp was off the clock, stoped and let cool down and topped up (took a kettle full)....after a few mins its at the top of the temp gauge again, its only loosing water from the pressure cap on the filler bottle...spent all afternoon taking water pump of and it looks fine with all vanes intact.....could it be a thermostat not opening if so where the hell is it fitted as i can see it.....please help asap....chris

had similar on v 220 cdi...although mine wasn't actually boiling up.

turned out the temp sensor had failed on the previous owner and the fan was running continuously ...knackering the bearings...v noisey
