1999 C180 Wiper not parking correctly

The wiper on my C180 sweeps in the correct arc but parks about 10 to 15 degrees above the normal position. Does anyone know where I could get an exploded view drawing for the wiper mechanism for this model, or alternatively is there an easy cure for this fault? Local MB dealer says about £300 would cure it!!

when you say it sweeps the correct arc but does not park, does that mean that it rises a little before parking.

there is no adjustment for the arm ass; the only adjustment is within the motor, and parking switch, I am curious as to what they will do to solve it as no separate parts for this.

The wiper actually stops in the wrong place, it does not overshoot or creep up from the correct parking position. The first time this happened, the wipers were set to intermittent, and on one of the cycles they stopped in the wrong position, and every time since then.

The MB dealer said it was most likely to be the motor and would cost roughly £300 to supply and fit.

Sounds to cheap to me, was the price from an Indi or MB.
The stop contacts on all wipers, are built in the motor.

wiper motors can fail, also the linkage base can break, euro car parts do a motor for between £83-£104 depending on model, not too difficult to fit, hardest part is unclipping the plastic cover, I beleive many of the wiper problems stem from overloading due to dry sliders that guide the arm in and out, it's worth keeping them greased.

The thing that has happened is that the wiper motor gearbox has jumped a tooth. As I said earlier there is no adjustment on the wiper linkage.

On PhilHarve's wiper, the linkage became to stiff, and a gear wheel inside the motor stripped. In this case the linkage could be too stiff, causing the timing gear to jump a tooth. The parking is done by double contacts and a cam wheel. the parking contacts are operated by the cam,that open circuits the switch at a certain point, the user control swith is wired over the parking contacts. When the 12 volts is removed by the user switch, as the cam turns this open cicuits the parking switch. Sad thing here is that it is only a nylon gear wheel required. But no parts.

The motor trade magazine this month features many large companies that rebuild all of these parts,as 90% of the parts can be re used. but no mention of MB. It is not a Bosch unit that MB use.

Thanks everyone, Phil Harve's thread was very interesting. Malcolm your suggestion seems to be the most likely cause of the problem since the wipers always park in exactly the same place.

the lock nut might be a little loose

it happened on mine just about two years ago.same a syour symtoms, but just got worse and stopped moving at all within about 5 mins, Stripped the housing down, and the retaining nut was loose, allowing progressively more and more slippage. Rebuilt it with oodles of locktite and fingers crossed.
