1999 E300 TD Where the oil level switch - faulty

My 1999 E300 TD is showing the 'Engine oil at minimum level' even although it's still at the 1/4 mark - a quick topup gets rid of the message.

Anyone know where the switch/level detector is fitted to the engine so I can check whether it's an easy job or not?

IIRC its easy to get to, its just above the sump plug? I'm sure I've seen something lurking up there.
