Hello all, my ML has been acting up lately, today it developed what feels like a missfire, seemed to be running on four cylinders, no power and sounded like a 2CV. Managed to get to work, left it for 10mins, restarted it and runs smooth as you like. It seems that if I push her through the gears it starts to missfire.
Only other symptoms seem to be a louder exhaust note and a rattle from the exhaust, like a loose baffle.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks in advance
Mike

Hello Mike, as Black, it should be the MAF, get one from a Bosch service center,½ the price of MB

Cats collapsed, disconnect the maf whilst the engines running, if it stalls its failed, if it runs rough but doesnt stall its ok.

Could be a loose/broken baffle restricting the exhaust that is causing the misfire.

Thanks guys, bit strange as it drove home fine tonight no misfire whatsoever. If it was the MAF would it have a continous fault?. It seems that if I drop a cog at say 60mph and push it up to 4500rpm for 30sec it starts missing and stays missing even at idle. Now I always have been dissapointed with the cars acceleration at anything above 60 seems dead but it pulls like stink from a standing start, I only have it a year. Will try that JIB, Panasnic, that was my first thought also.
As for you Steve, Ive had enough of twin cylinders for one day, funny though:mrgreen:
Cheers

MAFs are inconsistent

The MAF doesn't give a consistent fault it can be intermittent and manifest itself in slightly different ways. I had a similar symptopm as you and chnaged the MAF and then found the new MAF was faulty! But when it was changed again the porblem disappeared. As Malcolm said buy it from Bosch its a lot cheaper.
