1999 ml320 gearbox

HELLO..MY WIFE DRIVES OUR 99 ML32O AND IT HAS 101K ONTHE CLOCK. iT HAD BEEN PARKED UP FOR ABOUT 4 WEEKS WHEN THIS PROBLEM AROSE. WHEN TAKING OFF THE GEARBOX WILL ONLY CHANGE UP TO 2ND GEAR AND WILL HIT THE LIMITER. I HAVE TRIED BRAKING AND THEN ACCELLERATING HARD TO TRY AND GET IT THE GEARBOX TO CHANGE UP BUT TO NO AVAIL. THEN IF I STOP AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND ON AND PULL AWY IT WILL GO UP THROUGH THE GEARS BUT NOT AS SMOOTHLY AS BEFORE..PLEASE HELP...?????!!! COULD IT BE JUST A MATTER OF CHANGING THE GEARBOX OIL ????

Either a lack of voltage or electriacal plate playing up inside box. Needs proper diagnosis really

As black above,it does look like the plate is going down, not too expensive to do

Thanks for the replys guys..got a quote of £500 to get it done if it is the plate

I know nothing about the electrical plate but it may be worth your while changing the oil and filter first as the cheaper option and at this mileage it needs changing anyway. Of course if you do change the oil first and this does not cure the problem then you will have to pay for the oil all over again if the plate has to be changed.
