Hi

I'm new the the forum, but I'm hoping you guys will be able to help me out.

I've purchased a 1999 SLK 230 from my aunt, £10k and it's only done 35k, not a bad deal I think (she's bought a brand spanking SL55 AMG) !

Problem is, whenever I have the window down with the roof up, there's a whistling noise. It's obviously to do with the wind etc (I'm not that stupid :), but I wonder if anybody has the same issue, and more to the point, if anybody knows how it can be fixed. Is there a seal that needs replacing etc ?

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ryan

One window down or 2? If I put the window down on my E and drive at any speed, the air pressurises inside the car and I get a buffetting noise. If I open a back window slightly, the pressure can exit there and the buffetting stops. Same happens with a sunroof.
So I suspect what is happening is that with the air pressure higher in the car than outside, the pressurised air is pushing past a seal and thats what you can hear. Try dropping the passenger's window a fraction. Its probably that window anyway. Being frameless, the glass could flex slightly and its designed to keep air out, not in.
