Hi all I hope this is in the correct place as it is not really a tech post.

I recently bought a 2001 E320 CDI Avantguard I beleive this is a 210 is this correct??

I have spent 3 hours reading about the phone kits on here and my eyes are square and not much wiser. I install and repair electronic stuff for a living so I am not handless but is there any wiring in for the phone I checked the VIN on the Russian site with no info coming up about it there is no wiring in the middle console so.

Can I install a phone to interface with the display on the dash if so where are the connections located.

I have also read all about LCD failures on the dash my LCD is fine BUT the bulb behind the temp display has gone how do I get at it to replace ( I can see the temp with a torch and its working 100%).

Many thanks

Phones are not my best points, but you can replace the bulb behind the cluster, the whole thing just pushes out and is not fixed.

Take off the kick panel under the steering wheel and push it out if you can, or you can borrow the tools at MB and pull it out there from the front.

As long as you have the spare lamp you will be on your way in 5 mins

Clusters are very similar.
You can see how to remove the 210 cluster from my post in the diy section.

As far as phones go. The cost of fitting an MB kit would be prohibitive (£1k ish!!). f you went this route, you'd also need to change your phone for some 2001 relic as they were fixed to one phone in those days.
Get yourslef a parrott kit. I believe they do an interface to let the buttons on your wheel work but you can forget the dash display.

Top work there Malcolm.

BTW. You could look at just replacing the stereo with a bluetooth wan. I did just that fitting the Sony Stereo Bluetooth CD unit. It makes CD changers look like the 20th century kit they are.

Takes all my hands-free calls with ease (using built in mic') and plays my tunes from my K810i phone's 2GB memory card. Totally top bit of kit IMO.

If only I could find a patch cable to enable the steering wheel controls (no-one seems to make one?) I'd be set.
