1st time Mercedes.

Hello all,
after many years of BMWs I finally decided to try a Mercedes and although vastly different from my previous car, I love it.
I do have a question I hope someone can help with regarding a couple of scratches on my dash. It is black open pore Ash, I believe and has two significant scratches approx 2" long on the section above the glove box. Has anyone had any similar issues with that type of trim and any success in removing them/masking them.

Hi Jon, welcome to the forum I too have Black Ash but fortunately no scratches. I would be tempted to try a black marker but I don’t think I would try and remove the actual scratch though

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. I’d tried a marker pen previously but unfortunately it didn’t help much. The scratches run across the grain of the wood rather than with it so stand out even with the pen. Not to worry, I’ll keep experimenting with trying to conceal them. cheers.

Just thinking on from there maybe an Antique restorer would hold the answer

Try getting a price for a replacement trim from the dealers ? And dont forget to ask for club discount

HI Jon, we use a plastic surgeon (generic) its amazing what they can do do with stuff like this, I've seen quite large
and deep scratches on kitchen worktops, doors etc completely disappear.

Welcome to the forum. Any relation to the famous vet? As richlumb says I'd me asking an MB dealer for a replacement price - sometimes trim parts are not as expensive as you might think. You may get lucky at a breakers, but be careful about pricing and condition.

You could even suggest to the garage where you bought it to supply them to you and have a go at replacing yourself ?
