Hi. I have just purchased a 1996 E230 Automatic. Everything was working perfect. I took her out for a spin today and ran out of fuel and then ran battery out whilst trying to start her.

I got her jump started and put in £30 of fuel.

She now starts ok, however, ever time i start to slow down for junctions or stop at lights the rev counter drops to ZERO and the car Stalls. She will instantly start up again and drive, but everyone i slow down to stop it stalls.

Is it just that the battery needs a Full Electrical Charge or something else?

Advise Please.

Do check the fuse on top of the OVP relay

Just been reading the manual Have found that there is a jump start connections within the engine bay i should have used. However, I did not, I put the jumper cables direct tot the battery under the rear seat.

Is this anything to worry about ??

Malcolm, if it's a 96 E230, it's a W210. Battery in W124 is under bonnet. Post '93 w124s are 200, 220, 280, 320.

Also. Once the car was started after the jump and petrol added. I drive it about 3 miles to get home. Stalling about 9 times. I am wondering, should i take the battery out and put it on electrical charge over night.????????

I am trying to work out if you have a OVP relay it is a relay with a fuse on top and the fuse will have blown, thats if you have the relay

If you have one it could do that, its one of the pieces easily damaged when jump starting

Hi
So the muck at the bottom of the tank has gone into the fuel lines.
Change the fuel filter.

ok. if you find out, would appreciate the reply. Does this regulate the tick over ??

This device if fitted does upset the idle if the voltages are low leaving this relay
The only other way of checking is by making sure that you do have the full 12v going to the ECU

For sure your battery has taken a hammering, so yes, you should put it on charge.

Hi
So it is being charged at 1.5 amps. For a merc battery, that would mean about thirty hours.

after a few hours on charge, the battery gauge is showing 1. I have taken the car for a spin, and although the revs drop to about 500, its not stalling. I think a really long run mights fix. However, think i will ger Merc dealer to check it out. Thanks for all your help guys
