2.5-16 Manual Gearbox Oil

hello,

Just seeking some advice in advance of some oil changes on the above model. The service book simply says 'Automatic Transmission fluid for Manual Transmission 1.6L'.

Can anyone reccomend an suitable oil based on experiance of the 2.5-16. To date i've been advised that the gearbox on this model (Getrag 5spd) has a liking for the thinner type of ATF......specifically Shell Donax. As i'm finding it difficult to source the Donax i'm faced with the offer of some Castrol TQ ATF oil.

Try Esso Technical helpline. you will find their number on any carton of their gear oil at an Esso station. They reccomended Type D auto transmission fluid for the manual box in my V Class.
Make sure you get the right fluid, the wrong can give you serious problems.

Im pretty sure MB just use manual gear oil, i,e EP80...

some info for fellow 2.5-16 owners who are choosy about their oils...hehehe

Eventually found some Shell Donnax 'TX' for the gbox. Used Castrol EP90 for the rear LSD, Donnax Brake fluid and Shell Helix Ultra for the engine with a M-B oil filter.

Amazing what a total oil & brake fluid change can do for a car, sounding as quiet as new and stopping well. All work carried out by the ever helpfull and reliable Tattenhall Garage Services in Cheshire (01829 771184).
