I'm new to the Mercedes family, a sort of "Korean Cousin" really, as I'm in the process of aquiring a 1995 Ssangyong Musso, powered by the 2.9 non turbo Mercedes engine.
It's cheap, which is why it is coming to Scotland on my next trip south of the Border, but I'm concerned that some reports are saying that it is a bit 'underpowered', and as I'll be towing my two berth caravan with it on our winter week in the hills I wondered if there is a cheap turbo conversion available?
Will parts from the Turbo diesel fitted to the Sprinter Van fit for instance?

ALSO, where do I source parts like suspension, drivetrain ect? I'm sure that I read somewhere that some Mercedes commercial parts will fit, the Musso being based on a van build.

Any information on the Mercedes side of the thing would be of great help, and if anyone is running a Musso I'd like to ask a few questions.
Daewoo has taken over the newer Ssangyong plant I hear, so does that mean that Mercedes will no longer handle spares requests?

Hi, I had a 1996 mssangyong musso a while back and i must admit it wouldn't have pulled you out of bed. However I towed a heavy car on a trailer with it once and it pulled surprisingly well. It's as if it liked the load. You had to use the gearbox though.
I had a new timing chain fitted to it and the guy said engine code was similar to the engine fitted to the first of the 312 sprinters. I cant remember the code but as far as i can remember the number was the same but the last letters were different.
I had no serious problems getting parts for mine - there's a garage fairly local to me who seemed to be able to get almost anything for it next day or so. I also believe there's a place in Birmingham that specialise in Ssangyonmg parts but I'm afraid I can't remember the name. I think it was (Something) International.
Anyway here's the contact details of the place I used, I don't know if they do mail order though, or even if they still do Ssangyong stuff.
Hope this helps.
