Hi all, I am posting this query on behalf of my mum who is not exactly 'internet literate'!

She has a 2001 200 SLK which has an electric roof fault. Currently the roof is up but...

When pressing the roof switch back (which I understand will stow the roof) nothing at all happens, no movement, no noise, but the roof switch flashes.

When pressing the switch forwards I can hear what sounds like a pump motor running but again no movement.

If I keep flicking the roof switch back, the windows lower about a 1/4 of an inch each time.

The car starts and drives fine. I've noticed that the drivers door requires what I would have thought is excessive force to close and is alleviated by lowering the window slightly the door shuts easily. Ddon't the windows lower a bit automatically when the door is being closed then raise fully when the door is shut?? Just wondering if these problems are linked?

Any help or adviced appreciated (especially if given before my Dad gets back next week!)

Cheers, Jerry.

This is not something that is answered easily, far better to go to an Indie with a fault code reader, the problem cold be water in the PSE pump, there is a mod for this, the front roof catches and other things.

The window sholúld be OK with a re set

I know this might sound obvious but is the blind in the boot pulled out and if so check the switch to make sure it is operating ok.On the door closing thing open the door and with the window fully up check to see(from the outside) where the glass is meeting the rubber seal if it appears to high it may be the window stops have broken free(glued on) on the window allowing it to travel to far.

Guys,

Many thanks for your help.

Yes I have read a bit about turning the PSE pump over and will go down that route if necessary.

Am I right in thinking that the window reset is performed by lowering both windows at the same time (without fully pressing the switches) and when the windows are fully down press the down button for a few seconds. Then put the windows up again (again without fully pressing the switches) and when fully up press the up button for a few seconds.

Going back to the roof, Mercman, nothing is too obvious to us, we have only had the car a little while and it has been my Dad who has been the main user. Anyway I personally was unaware that the blind in the boot had to be fully out for the roof to come down!! Will check this.

RTFM eh??

Many thanks, Jerry.

Re sinc the windows individually, hold down to lower the window and keep button pressed for 5 sec in key 2 raise the window and hold for 5 sec in key 2

You may have to de sinc them first

Almost certainly the glass is rising too high so when you close the door the glass sits over the roof seal when it should sit against it. When the glass is raised there is a metal bracket glued to the glass that comes into contact with another bracket fixed to the inner door skin, so when they come into contact stops the glass in the correct position.

There are three reasons for this not to happen..........

1) The bracket fixed to the glass has come off (quite common)
2) The bracket fixed to the inner door skin just needs adjusting
3) The bracket fixed to the inner door skin is bent so the bracket
on the glass passes over and the glass rises too high (this
happend to my car)
