Hi all, this is my first post and im hoping someone can make sense of the issue I'm having.

The drivers side window on my CLK 430 Coupe will not drive the window all the way back up closed.

No matter if the door is open or closed, it only moves the windows a few inches up, then stops. The only way to achieve successful close is to physically grip the window and kinda pull it up while the motor is pushing it up.

I've only just purchased this car, and this was the one and only fault with it (apart from needing a brake/tail light replaced:p).

Anyone any ideas? Ta much

Hi, I am not sure if this is a memory problem or the window runners are too tight, lubricate the felt runners with some PTFE or silicon and try it again

Hey, thanks for the interest. The thing is, that my windows are frameless, and I have this problem whether the door is open or closed.

Has the battery been flat or changed?
If so you have to reset the windows.

Resetting the side windows
Each side window must be reset if the battery was disconnected or discharged.

Make sure that the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.

Pull the switch upwards until the window is closed, and hold it in this position for another second.

Thanks for the info RF065. I dont think that is the problem, as the passenger side window operates perfectly. Would it have anything to do with either a weak motor, or that a runner is off alignment somehow?

Of course, possibly, from what you're saying that each window is reset seperately, it is worth doing anyway just to see.

Hello shea2k, Ive had a few problems with my windows on my clk and a reset normaly sorts it out, by the way does it go all the way up when you close windows with the key fob?

Hiya hbltd. I've been reading that it seems to be a fairly inherent fault in the CLK's actually? I've not tried having the window down and seeing if the keyfob closes it. I have just kept the window up the past few days since I noticed this problem.

I'll give that a go in the morning, the same as the window reset as rb065 suggests. Thanks for the idea.

Further think on this most cars like the CLK have a limit switch that if they detect a load they go back down 100mm

If the reset takes it up and sorts it, thats what I meant with a memory problem

Ahhhhh.....I see what ya mean mate. You're making sense alright. I'll be sure to do a reset in the morning to see if it sorts the problem out.

Thanks all! :)

Near where I was parking my 124 last spring there was a birds nest and the driver's window was regularly getting well spattered. That seemed to affect it closing properly unless cleaned off daily. It may not be related to your problem at all, but perhaps worth bearing in mind?

Apart from the reset and a duff window motor, another problem is that the door check strap fails and can sometime bend the internal lower window runner, we've had to cut the runner out and straighten, then weld back, or as mercedes would have it............... buy a new door??
