help . i have a e320 cdi auto . yesterday i jump in to the car to go somewhere and when i stopped to open our gate i could not put the gear lever into park , it would only go in drive or neutral . i continued my journey and noticed that it was stuck in 2nd gear and would only rev 3000 rpm .
i later noticed that there was nothing in the gear display next to the clock .
to get the car into reverse or park i have to turn off the ignition .
the car was used 2 days prior to this and it was ok .
however my wife left the passenger window open about 2 inches and it had rained heavily soaking the passenger seat and floor , is this coincedence or is something wet ?
any help would be appreciated , thanks .

Yes the water has gone into the center control. this is on the gear shift and needs drying out, hopefully it will be OK

i have removed the gear lever and stripped it down and it was bone dry .
i also checked the ecu and found that it was full of oil . i pulled it out of its box and cleaned it and put it back but its still the same .
are there any fuses or relays in the system ?

Transmission....

Its not due to the water, mine did the same at about 105k.....the shift lever has to be replaced. I cant access the invoices for the part no just now, you will find max speed will be 40mph as well.....Sorry about that.

If the ECU is full of oil then a seal needs replacing on the gearbox.

Hi,
Is,nt there a modified loom for this problem, i would have thought that you were lucky that the oil did,nt make the ECU go kaput.
Though running ok now i would get the loom replaced as next time the oil may see off the ECU.
