MERCEDES E320 AVENTGARDE (W210) 2000(W)
Hi,
Last night i went to the petrol station to get petrol filled it up then when i tried to restart the car my little girl pulled the automatic gear stick into reverse while it was cranking. I stoppped with the igition put it back in park and tried to start but nothing except a small click.
The car in the past has failed to start without cranking 2 or 3 times over the year i've had it, but i have just removed the key then retried and its been fine.
This time i just keep on get 1 click and then nothing?
I have check all fuses and they seem fine and i'm pretty sure the battary is ok.
I have just been made redundant and with christmas and 4 kids i can't afford to get mercedes to have a look and don't know if i need a mechanic or auto electrician?

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP:D

There's a good possibility that the ESM, electronic selector module is buggered, there is another fault which that model has, when you put the ign on, does it come out of park????????

Hello and welcome with your not such good news :(

You do have a starter lock out on the console shift,,,see what others have to say.

I think that you will need a minimum of a volt meter, circa £5

Just before you get a meter,, is this going to be an EIS fault,

is the clicking the starter motor or a relay.

If the gear lever was put into D there must be no click,,if it then clicks in P and N this will prove that the selector is OK and it was just the interruption when his daughter moved the stick that brought the fault to a head

I need to think a liitle more, the starter function could fail in not sending the signal,, though I do appreciate that there is a click,,,should we ascertain this as a relay or starter motor, a head under the bonnet would answer this one

It sounds as if its a click from a relay unit as it is a dull click and seems to be from the firewall area when i'm under the bonnet.
I'll try and check it out for certain in the morning as its too dark now.

Thanks once ago for helping me out!

Paul.
