Hi Chaps

Read a few of the threads to see if I could self diagnose my problem. Driving home today from work my yellow engine management light came on. The car was and still is running fine. I had my Magnet crankshaft sensor changed last year as a precaution so not expecting oil in ECU.

The only thing the car does is on start up when cold it initialy runs rough for 2 seconds. I have solved this by pressing lightly on acclerator on peddle as I start up.

So what do you think MAF sensor? Any help apprecaited from you fine chaps!

Regards

Mick:p

Also can anyone reccomend any ECU readers?

Change the MAF for a Bosch new one, cheaper from Bosch.

This Item does not show up on a code reader and worthwhile reader can cost £1000's

I take it your's must be the last of the 111 engines. Other possible problem areas are oxygen sensor & flametrap valve. These can both put the warning light on with no obvious problems when driving.

If the car appears to be operating normally what should I change? And why should the light just come on? Can the light only be reset by a garage? Where is the flame trap valve?

I took the MAF sensor and cleaned it today but the light is still on and touch wood the car is operating normally. I dont really want to go changing the MAF sensor without the car actually showing signs of driving oddly?

Any Info appreaciated, it is a 2001 Model car

The fault codes must be read out or all anyone can do is guess by using previous common problems. Even if you change the faulty part, the code needs to be erased to extinguish the warning light.

I went on Ebay and did the same but whilst waiting I took it to a friends garage, who plugged it into his tester and had the same Fault MAF reader. Did your Car show any signs of problems when driving? Or did the light just come up?

When the MAF is going or gone the engine loses most of its power and will no go past 3k rpm, this low power output has an effect on the gear box locking it into 2nd.

unplugging will get the car back to near normal for testing

The warning light is ofen from the O2 sensor that has tried to compensate
