I believe I have a major battery problem on my CLK. The battery is in the boot/trunk and the emergency (mechanical) key doesn't work.
I've called out the roadside assistance guy and he tried connecting a power supply direct to the starter motor, still to no avail, can anyone help?

The remedy i have observed on the forum is to try to loosen the lock by lubricating the lock with Rp7 and persistence with the key. It should work after a while. If that doesnt work I would recommend that you try an industrial spray lubricant called Rostoff Ice which is used in marine applications on parts fused together by rust

The lock doesn't seem to be stuck, the key turns freely in the lock, but doesn't release. I've tried a lot of manipulation.

Ok .

A. Can you take the rear seats out to get to it through the cabin? I cant remember whether the CLK has an entry to the boot from the cabin.

B. Have you got access to a high pressure air compressor with the thin pencil nozzle?

Thanks Aussie Nick,
Theres no easy way to get through to the rear compartment, without wrecking the seats.
No I don have an HP compressor.
At the moment I'm leaving the car and hopefully enough charge will build up to release the lid if I leave it alone for a few hours. It opened fine earlier today, just died when I tried to start the damn thing.

I left it for around 2 hours and the remote worked, I've now removed the lock and am getting the RAC to look at the battery/electrical problem. Thanks for all your help people, I'll report on the root cause of this electrical problem when its resolved.

If you are having problems opening the boot lid can I suggest you leave the car with all electrics off and try again in a few hours, enough time for enough charge to return to the battery. I also noted that when I pressed the release on the remote it took a couple of seconds for the lid to open, so pressing the button repeatedly may not he:)lp.
