2001 SLK Roof Won't Open

Hi.
Just got the missus a 2001 SLK. Not had one before so I could be doing something wrong, but I had presumed to open the roof you simply use the big red button in the centre-console - No manual unlocking required?

What happens is the red button flashes when you try to open the roof - Nothing else happens at all.

If you operate the button as if to shut the roof you hear the mechanicals working behind you for a few seconds and, if the windows are open, it will shut the windows.

But can't open the roof - Any ideas? Schoolboy error?

The manual's in French - I can read German just about, but French is lost on me!

Hello and welcome, first normalize the windows and roll bar if fitted by on each in turn, turn the key to 2 close each window and hold the switch in the up mode for 10 sec the same with the roll bar

have you pulled the boot blind into postion in the boot, the roof wont move until thats been done.

Forgot about pulling the boot-blind...Sorted....and now it's snowing

I get a picture on the dash of the cover when mine is not closed.

Re the snow,, be brave try it it does not come in at 30mph
